10 things I learnt in Bordeaux.

Hello there!!

Sorry for the delay between posts, I have had limited access to the internet so I haven't had a chance to update the blog. I have spent the last 2 weeks in Bordeaux taking French lessons.

As I have limited time and have to head off to London in a couple of hours, I thought I would write a quick post of 10 things I learnt in Bordeaux.

1. When catching a train in France, its seems completely normal to take your pet with you. When I was in Australia, I thought I would treat myself to 1st class tickets for the train. Little did I know then, I would be sharing first class with a very chatty cat.

2. Upon arriving in Bordeaux, I was greeted by my new host Dad in rapid fire french. At this point I realised I had forgot every single french word I had ever learnt and had no idea what he was saying. (Did I really take those French lessons at Alliance in Melbourne?!)

3. Living in a house with a bunch of people that speak a different language and only a few words of English is very nerve wracking. I was concentrating so hard on the conversation and being polite, I managed to knock over my glass of expensive vintage Bordeaux wine whilst trying to rip a piece of bread.

4. The word 'maladroit' means clumsy in French.

5. It is completely normal to eat bread and cheese with every meal.

6. There is always room for chocolate after dinner (but really I knew that already)

7. Tea can indeed be drank out of a soup bowl.

8. You can accidentally teach your new host dad to swear. For example:
Me: 'I need a new sheet of paper.'
French Dad: 'shit?! *Grabs dictionary* 'Ahhh!! Merde?!
Awkward Silence.

9. According to my French Dad, if you finish the bottle of wine, you will get married by the end of the year. Hmmm. Interesting. He made sure I finished 2.

10. Bordeaux is a wonderful place, full of wonderful people and yet again I have found another place to call home!!

So thats it in a nutshell. Now I am in Paris, writing this in my very own (rediculously tiny) apartment.

What's next.........?!! This is where the real adventure begins.

  1. Hi Emma,

Glad you had such an interesting and exciting time in Bordeaux. Have been thinking of you as we have been watching snippets of the Queen's diamond jubilee celebrations. Did you brave the wind, rain and cold to watch the boat parade?

    Love reading your blog.

Keep living life to the full.

    Love and hugs,

    Sissy and Jeff xxxx

Ps Nanna sends her love, hugs and kisses.
