Coffee time

Having spent the last few years in Melbourne, I have come to appreciate & learn a few things in life including:

1. Crowded house wrote '4 Seasons in 1 day' about Melbourne. Learning to layer my clothes was an important part of every day living.

2. Melbourne is the most 'European' city in Australia due to the creative enriched lifestyle and the large Greek & Italian populations.

3. Due to this Italian influence we have become known for our coffee and its safe to say, it's the best coffee in the world.

For me, finding the 'perfect' or 'best' coffee in Melbourne became a daily mission. Living in Richmond, I was spoilt for choice and having a bad coffee was just not acceptable and a true rare occurrence. Fast forward to 2012 and living in Paris where learning to adjust to weak & or bitter coffee has been downright depressing, so as a result I have decided to search for the best coffees in Paris and will share my findings here with you.

For those in Melbourne, I have written a list of my favourite coffee haunts for you to try.

Enjoy!

MELBOURNE:
Rowena Parade Corner Store - My favourite Richmond local.
Short Black Cafe - Easily the cheapest inner city take away coffee at $2/small cup.
Old Barber Shop Cafe - A hidden gem. Great coffee & delightful chai tea.
Alimentari - Great coffee, friendly atmosphere & delicious brunch.
The Auction Rooms - One of North Melbourne's best coffee finds.
Roasting Warehouse - A true Melbourne cafe, graffiti and all.
St Ali - If you can find it, enjoy one of their speciality blends. Feta & avocado mash to die for!
Pillar of Salt - Another popular Richmond haunt.

PARIS:
Coutume Cafe - A cafe owned by a Frenchman & an Aussie. You can't go wrong! Great vibe, a great place to go when I am missing home as it often feels more like Melbourne than Paris!
La Cafeotheque - An great little Cafe not far from Hotel de Ville. If you have your own coffee machine at home, you can buy your beans here too. They like Coutume have a blend of the day, for those who like to try different blends.
The Tuck Shop - A new cafe recently opened by 3 Aussie chicks who have done us all proud! A cute kitch cafe in an up and coming less touristy spot of Paris. Delicious food & great value for money!
Miroglio Caffe - Introduced to me by a coffee loving local. This place is dedicated to the art of fine Italian coffee. Definitely on the expensive side, but a cute place to try if you are visiting the Pompidou Centre and are craving a caffeine fix!
Fondation Cafe - A new kid on the block, owned by a lovely chap from Sydney. Serves great coffee and petit déjeuner including avocado on toast!
Craft Cafe - If you need a place to work or be creative, this is a fantastic place for you. There are plently of outlets and workspace. There is a flat fee of 3 euro per hour, which can be reinbursed with food and coffee.
